Under the auspices of the Association of Greek and Affiliated Panhellenic Interests, Corfu 2009 addressed issues in law, medicine and science in the pursuit of a just society with a wide ranging program developed in conjunction with our co-hosting colleagues in Athens.

The venue for Corfu 2009 was Grecotel's magnificent Corfu Imperial Resort (in conjunction with its adjacent Eva Palace) on the exclusive Kommeno Bay, a wonderful venue with some of the more magnificent vistas and spectacular facilities. The Corfu Imperial provided excellent conference facilities, with a wide range of recreational activities in superb surrounds overlooking the magnificent sea views.

Corfu has had its place in history from the time of Troy as the place Odysseus stayed at on his protracted return to Ithaca (and was almost waylaid by the beautiful Nafsika). Corfu can tell stories over the centuries, having been at various times Roman, Venetian, Byzantine, Russo-Turkish and French, before being taken by the British after the Napoleonic Wars and then ceded by them to the newly independent Greece in 1864.

The friendliness and charm of Greek civilization is interposed over Venetian, French and English architecture and on a languid summer evening the cricketers still play on the Spianada in front of the Byzantine-cum-Venetian castle.

Our stimulating and diverse program was prepared by our main organizing committee of Professor Loane Skene, Dr Magdelena Simonis. Dr Jim Vadolas, David Roylance, Associate-Professor Louis Doukas and Associate-Professor Andrew Alston, in conjunction with our Greek organizing committee, with guidance from Judge Konstantinos Vardakavis and Dr Takis Vidalis.
