Conference Patrons
Our Founding Patron is Professor Peter Doherty AC, the 1996 co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work on immunology. Professor Doherty delivered the Keynote Addresses at our 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011 events and has a strong professional interest in the work being undertaken by the Cell & Gene Therapy Unit.
Our Australian Patron is Professor David de Kretser AC, a reproductive endocrinologist whose academic career at Monash University has included appointments as Professor of Anatomy, the founding Director of the Monash Institute of Medical Research, and the Associate Dean for Biotechnology Development. He served as the 28th Governor of Victoria from 2006 to 2011 and is a Companion of the Order of Australia.
Our Greek Patron is Justice Konstantinos Vardavakis, a leading judge of the Supreme Court of Greece (Arios Pargos), who also participated in the 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011 events.
Australian Committee
Our Chairman is Eugenia Mitrakas, well known in legal and medical circles. Born in Lesvos, Greece, and an emigrant to Australia as a child, Eugenia has worked tirelessly in supporting organizations for education, culture, the aged, the disadvantaged and the community for many years.
