Environmental Practices

In planning the Costa Navarino resort particular attention was paid to preserving the existing natural flora and fauna habitats. Moreover, a 200,000m2 of surrounding landscape was transformed and planted with 6,500 trees and 300,000 shrubs.

In the scope of the environmental plan, the largest geothermal network in Europe (123km horizontal geothermal heat exchanger) was constructed, as well as Biological Treatment using MBR technology with a clean water production capacity of 1,500m3 per day which is used for irrigating the surrounding gardens and golf courses.

Navarino Natura Hall

Navarino Natura Hall, a science museum within the resort, provides a unique insight into the rich and diverse environment of Messinia, with interactive features that let visitors experience the Messinian flora and fauna. The content highlights Costa Navarino’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

Through its programs the centre is committed to encouraging participation in the global effort to tackle climate change while presenting the results of research programs being carried out at Navarino Environmental Observatory.

Navarino Natura Hall was designed by the NGO Organization “Earth” and the company K&G and is operated collaboratively by Stockholm University, the Academy of Athens, the Hellenic Ornithological Society, the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association, the Navarino Foundation and Hellenic Postbank.
